“If you think you are leading and turn around to see no one following, then you are just taking a walk.” ~ Benjamin Hooks, former director of the NAACP
Leadership is a critical component of any successful organization. Great leaders are essential for driving growth, innovation, and positive change, but how does your company identify the unique characteristics needed for leaders and where there might be shortcomings?
Leadership Circle Profile™ 360° Assessment is a powerful tool that enables individuals to gain insight into their leadership strengths and weaknesses, identify areas for improvement, and develop strategies to enhance their leadership skills. It also helps leaders find their core behavioral patterns, underlying beliefs, assumptions, and habits of thought.
We previously shared how the Shift+ Positive® Method creates stronger organizational relationships while supporting leaders’ growth. The Leadership Circle, also a 360-assessment tool, focuses on building leaders' effectiveness.
Effective Leadership
Leaders taking the assessment in the top 10% of highest performing businesses on average score in the 80th percentile vs. those in the bottom 10% of businesses who score on average in the 30th percentile. The Leadership Circle Profile looks at leadership effectiveness based on two primary leadership domains: Creative Competencies and Reactive Tendencies. Creative Competencies are the skills and behaviors that enable leaders to drive positive change, inspire innovation, and build high-performing teams. Reactive Tendencies, on the other hand, are the unproductive habits and behaviors that hold leaders back and limit their potential.
Creative Competencies
The Creative Competencies domain includes five key areas:
- Visionary
- Participative
- Strategic
- Interpersonal
- Self-Aware
The assessment evaluates these areas based on specific behaviors and skills essential for effective leadership. The Leadership Circle report provides a detailed analysis of the leader's scores in each area, enabling them to develop a targeted development plan to enhance their skills.
Reactive Tendencies
The Reactive Tendencies domain includes three key areas:
- Defensive
- Compliant
- Passive-Aggressive
The assessment evaluates these areas based on specific behaviors and habits that can hold leaders back and limit their potential.
The real power of the Leadership Circle comes from the perspective and insights gained around Reactive Tendencies. This is a great tool to help executives shift from reactive to creative leadership, diving into the assumptions behind the Reactive Tendencies and engaging in creative leadership skills.
Recent studies show that reactive leadership can lead to regret when deciding how to cut costs.
Collecting Feedback for Leaders
Like the Shift+ Positive Method, the Leadership Circle assessment provides a comprehensive view of a leader's effectiveness by collecting feedback from multiple sources, including the leader, their peers, direct reports, and superiors. The feedback is collected using a confidential online survey that takes approximately 30 minutes to complete.
The Leadership Circle Report
Leadership Circle Profile™ 360° Assessment generates a report that provides a holistic view of the leader's strengths and weaknesses based on the feedback received. This includes a range of charts, graphs, and narrative descriptions that provide insights into the leader's scores on the Creative Competencies and Reactive Tendencies and how they compare to the average scores for leaders in their industry.
The report also includes a Leadership Circle Profile graph that visually represents the leader's Creative Competencies and Reactive Tendencies scores. The chart provides a clear overview of the leader's areas of strength and weakness and enables them to identify areas for improvement.
